About Us
OVERVIEW Emergency medicine also known as accident & emergency is a medical specialty concerned with the care of illness or injuries requiring immediate attention. This field of practice is based on the knowledge & skills required to prevent, diagnose & manage acute/urgent aspects of illness & injury affecting patients of all age groups with a full spectrum of undifferentiated physical & behavioral disorders. It further encompasses an understanding of the development of pre-hospital & in-hospital EMS & skills necessary for its development. In recent decades emergency medicine has been recognized as a specialty in its own right with its training programs & academic posts. The specialty is now a popular choice among medical students. AT KIMS Emergency Medicine was established under the leadership of former Dean & Principal Dr. M.K. Sudarshan & Former HOD Dr. Srinivas Prabhu in 2012. MCI permission was granted in 2013 for starting Post Graduation 02 MD seats in Emergency Medicine. Now NMC had granted 5 seats in 2024. Till date 12 students have graduated as emergency physicians in flying colors from RGUHS securing 1st, 2nd & 5th ranks with 100% pass. The department is functioning as a single unit comprising of 30 bed strength as per NMC norms.

CRITICAL CARE FACILITY IN DEPARTMENT Emergency ICU -06 beds, Multispecialty ICU -18 beds, HDU/ICU 10 beds equipped with state of the art facilities – ventilators, bed side dialysis, ECHO, USG 24hrs Intensivist consultation,m1:1 nurse patient ratio. DIAGNOSTIC FACILITY Bed side ECG,ECHO,USG,ABG,TROP I ,point of care investigations with in 2hrs Toxicology lab for qualitative analysis of poisons & drug over dosage, CT & MRI suits. SUPPORTIVE FACILITY Round the clock super specialty services (neurosurgery, neurology, endoscopy, pain medicine)Ambulance services 24x7 ,centralized telephone contacts , Blood bank 24x7 availability of blood & blood products, generator facility 24x7, cold storage & PM facility at cellar. LEGAL SUPPORT CMO’s available 24x7 to handle MLC cases. HUMAN RESOURCES Emergency physicians , senior residents, junior resident, interns, resp therapist, nurses ICU 1:1, nurses in wards 1:3. Majority trained in BLS & ACLS .
